Sample records are always a great treat, thank you for this rare recording, and the excellent sound quality.
I wonder if Vogel (was it still Vogel or was Manṣūr ‘Awaḍ already on board at that time?) decided to issue this dōr by Zakī Murād after comparing the two renditions, or if it was ‘Abd al-Bārī himself who decided not to go for it.
Leon, can you confirm the letters after the matrix number are /ah/ ? and is 1913 handwritten ? Hugo Strotbaum was wondering if this series was January 1913 or January 1914, if you have a written proof that it is 1913, we should send him of picture of the label, so that he can definitely put this Cairo take in 1913...

This is indeed a real treat! However, the dawr is incomplete. Normally, there should be a fourth side, unless the sample record was cut in the middle of the dawr. Fred could tell us whether this is a possibility inasmuch as there would be similar cases .

here's pics of all 3 sides. i imagine the labels were blank and the owner wrote in the information himself. the matrix#s are engraved and all end with "ah". i couldnt find these number in the alan kelly catalogue (which makes sense if they were test pressings, manyalawi's el fuad habak doent appear in the catalogue either). but mustafa sa'id was able to locate the numbers, he says abdel bari recorded a mawal right before this dawr. he also dated it 1913.
the blank side of each disc is engraved with 'made in germany'.

i'm unsure if a 4th side belongs to this piece. because he ends in more or less the same place as the zaki version, but his close is somewhat abrupt.

I would tend to side with Abu Alaa on this one, I also feel a 4th side is missing. But then again, this could be the reason for which the record was not issued : either it was not recorded, or it was recorded but the original wax was broken during transportation... So many scenarios we can imagine...
