إفتراضي Suleiman Abu Dawud / Dawr: Fuadi Asalak Oulli فؤادي اسالك قوللي (Odeon)

    Suleiman Abu Dawud
    Dawr: Fuadi Asalak Oulli
    Odeon. Matrix EX 1229-a/b. Order# 45208/1/2
    Talheen: Abdu El Hamuli
    circa 1905
    maqam awj

there's a gash in the groove at the beginning of the madhhab so the word fuadi gets cut off a bit. but he repeats the madhhab so the complete tune isn't lost.
the recording ends in a weird place, so I'm thinking there should be more to the dawr. but then again most of Abu Dawud's adwar are only 2 sided recordings.
The recording needs to be slowed down, but I didn't venture to do so.

This is a very lively piece on Abu Dawud's part and an outstanding composition by Hamuli.

This is another interesting dawr that reminds me of yihram 'alayya-ndhur ghirak that was also recorded by 'abu Dawud.

The end of the recording is indeed a big mystery. It sounds as though the dawr was cut in the middle. Not only we have no qafla of any sort, but the sound is interrupted in the middle of a ghusn when a development in bayati is hardly started.
While we cannot dismiss the hypothesis of the possible existence of a third side ('abu Dawud did record a few 'adwar on 3 and even 4 sides, and the tatquqa-like structure of the dawr does not preclude the presence of other 'aghsan, we have no certainty in this regard, especially that you wouldn't expect a side/record to end in this abrupt way. Without being an expert in these issues, I think this is a defect serious enough to prevent the commercial distribution of this recording and have it remain a sample record. The fact that this title is not included in the discography complied by Frederic doesn't help.
The file is undoubtedly too fast, but,
as usual, I can only offer my best guess in this regard as per the attached modified file.

i guess it's a possibility. the 2nd side of the raw record begins in a strange way, abu dawoud is called out, he responds hader then there's dead space in between that and the start of the takht. about 8 seconds worth. i cut all that out in the filtered version posted. at first hearing it i thought it was poor management on the engineer's part. here's a clip from the raw file.
