هذه القصائد على الوحدة وجه واحد مفرطة القصر ومع ذلك لذيذة. من الواضح أنها مرتجلة تماما، تتبع لحن دولاب العواذل ولا تبتعد عنه كثيرا، المسيرة البياتي نمطية، ومع أنها لا تخرج من سلم المقام، اللهم مع بعض الاستطرادات الشوري أحيانا، هي مطربة للغاية.
هتان القطعتان لا تشذان عن القاعدة.

Concerning Tadhallal li-man tahwa, while I am not taking into consideration yet the late Polyphon recording (I'd prefer a clean version of it before), a quick comparison between the Baidaphon version I posted 2 days ago and this Gramophone rendition is in favor of the Baidaphon. Although both are very short, I feel Sayyid al-Ṣaftī does a better job in the Baida, including one of those short shūrī allusions (on awwaluhu suqmun, in the last verse) that we do not hear in this Gramophone rendition

أصبح عندنا الآن ثلاث صيغ لهذه القصيدة : بوليفون، وهي صيغة طويلة من وجهين كنت رفعتها قديما وها أنذا أعيد رفعها الآن بعد تذمّر الفريد من رداءة النسخة واجتهادي في تنقيتها علّها تغدو أكثر استساغة، وقد وجدت هذه النسخة الجديدة أسوغ للسمع فعلا، وصيغتان قصيرتان لكلّ من غراموفون وبيضافون ؛ وقد كنت وعدت فريديريك بالتعليق على هذه الصيغ الثلاث خلال نهاية الأسبوع الماضي ثمّ صرفتني عن إنجاز الوعد شواغلي، وذكّرني به الفريد اليوم متلطّفا فوجب الإنجاز ؛ وما أذكره هو أنّنا اتّفقنا تقريبا على أنّ الصيغتين القصيرتين (الصيغ القصيرة من القصائد عموما) محض ارتجال في حين أنّ الصيغة (الصيغ) الطويلة مزيج بين مختزن ثابت (إمّا من التجربة الشخصيّة للمطرب أو من رصيد غيره) ومرتجل، فأردت اختبار هذه الفرضيّة من خلال المقارنة بين الصيغ الثلاث.
تشترك الصيغ الثلاث في الانطلاق من مقام البياتي (والعود إليه في الختام) والتخلّص (لوهلة قصيرة أو لفترة أطول) إلى العجم / الجهاركاه بعد التدرّج إليه بالصعود إلى فرع البياتي الأعلى، وتلوين شوري قد يحضر وقد يغيب وقد يطول وقد يقصر، هذا هو النمط التأليفيّ لتركيبة القصيدة المقاميّة في صيغها الثلاث :
بوليفون
د 0 - 1'27" بياتي من درجتين (دوكاه ثمّ نوى ؟) مع تلوين شوري د 1'06"
د 1'28" - 5'08" استطراد طويل من العجم / جهاركاه
د 5'09" عود إلى البياتي حتّى الختام
غراموفون
د 0 - 2'35" استغراق في البياتي مع تدرّج مماثل للتدرّج في صيغة بوليفون

د 2'56" عود إلى البياتي حتّى الختام (دون تلوين الشوري هذه المرّة)

د 0 - 2'13" بياتي وفق نفس المخطّط الصاعد
د 2'14-39" عجم
د 2'40" عود إلى البياتي حتّى الختام مع تلوين شوري خاطف د 2'47"
مع الملاحظ أنّ الصفتي يستهلّ صيغة غراموفون بدولاب العواذل مغنّى ولا يدخل في أبيات القصيدة إلاّ في الدقيقة 0'57"، ولا يبدأ صيغة بيضافون به وإنّما يغنّيه في ختامها.
وما يمكن استخلاصه من هذه المقارنة هو أنّ هيكل هذه القصيدة عند الصفتي واحد يقوم على البياتي في حركتين دنيا ووسطى ثمّ خروج إلى العجم لفترة تطول أو تقصر حسب طول التسجيل مع إمكان التعريج المقتضب أو الخاطف على الشوري، وهذا المخطّط يقوم على هيكل ذي محطّات ثابتة في محتواها وفي ترتيبها ولا تختلف بين صيغة وأخرى إلاّ بمدّة كلّ محطّة منها، ولعلّ هذا المخطّط عابر لمختلف قصائده من مقام البياتي حتّى إنّي أذكر أوّل قصيدة على الوحدة سمعنتها منذ أكثر من أربعين عاما (يا مليح اللمى)، وهي لا ما زالت تتردّد في مسمعي حتّى هذه الساعة وأطرب لها كلّما ذكرتها كما طربت لهذه القصيدة ؛ وما أزعمه على الأقلّ فيما يخصّ هذه القصيدة بصيغها الثلاث أنّها تقوم على قالب ثابت هامش الارتجال فيه محدود جدّا إن لم يكون معدوما سوى أنّ ما يميّز صيغة عن أخرى ولا سيّما صيغتي بيضافون وغراموفون هو نضارة الصوت وما يقترن به من قدرة على التجويد بحليات ونمنمات دقيقة في إنتاج نفس الجمل.

What still needs to be studied in the qasida ‘alā l-waḥda are the details of "qismat al-kalām" on the cycle, taf‘ila by taf‘ila. I am wondering to which extent singers (unconsciously) follow a same pattern or have their personal idiosyncrasies.
For instance, the

Dum on dhal / Dum on man
is a pretty standard start, where the dum is stressed by the fact that
- it falls on a short syllable (ḥarf mutaḥarrik) at the textual level
- it follows a lower note at the melodic level
all this is performed without theorizing it, on the part of singers, but still follows rules, in which I wonder to which extent a given singer has a personal approach, his own politics and strategy in "qismat al-kalam" while improvising, or as you show it, "half" improvising, considering that the general movement of the piece is set.

Sami al-Shawa's work in this electric recording is fantastic. I like the repeat of wa-‘ish khāliyan at the end. Very little shurī, only for a concluding second.
This sounds very close to Polyphon's rendition. Too bad it's from a radio program, I really wonder if there are 2 different Odeon recordings of Tadhallal li-man tahwā, the 47103 1/2 and the 219, but since this is obviously electric and thus must be the 219, this means there is probably a different and previous take, acoustic, also on Odeon.
It is now clear that Tadhallal was Ṣaftī's "signature" qaṣīda ‘alā l-waḥda.

Maybe I wouldn’t say it’s his best performance, but I do think it’s the most complete and the most colorful one.

It is now clear that Tadhallal was Ṣaftī's "signature" qaṣīda ‘alā l-waḥda.

And this version is the synthesis of the other three versions.
If we do the same thing as we did with the three previous ones, we find the following:
- 0'29-1'19" bayātī, "the two stage" one we have already described when comparing the structure of the other versions;
- 1'19"-2'01" shūrī (not very little at all);
- 2'01-36" 'ajam
- 2'36-51" a short return to bayātī with Fred's so called "shūrī" wink
Then (instrumental) dūlābi-l-'awadhil;
- 3'19"-43" again the usual two-stage bayātī
- 3'44"-54" shūrī
- 3'55"-5'29" 'ajam (the longest section);
- 5'30 final return to bayātī.
So, Safti combines here all the melodic themes/approaches he had variably used in the other versions. But there's no invention, no new melodic or vocal tricks that he hasn't already tried. Besides there is no clear melodic line progressing from one section to another, but rather a sort of wandering between the three main colours. And if I don't necessarily consider it the best version, it is because of the absence of novelties and this erratic way in reviewing his other performances with much redundancy (see in particular the long 'ajam section) and a less fresh voice.
