Mohammad Reza Lotfi, born 1947 in the Northern Iranian city of Gorgan, studied with Habibollah Salehi, Ali Akbar Shahnazi, Abdollah Davami and Master Hormozi. He is one of the most famous tar and setar players in contemporary Iranian classical music. From 1978 to 1980 he was Head of the School of Music at Teheran University. Since 1986 he lives in the United States.

These two pieces , "Pishdarâmad" and "A flower tinted cheek", from Lotfi's 1996 Kereshmeh Records CD "Mystery of Love" are the first two parts of a long presentation in dastgah Dashti.

Lotfi is accompanied on Tombak and Daf by Mohammad Ghavihelm, an Iranian percussionist, born 1951 in Teheran, but residing in France since 1978.
